I am a late-20′s bloke living somewhere in East Anglia with my wife and our three cats.
By day, I am a learning technologist, dispensing justice advice in the wonderful world of higher education. This mostly involves poking ASP.NET, but also an unhealthy amount of classic ASP, PHP, and SQL. Occasionally they even let me break out the crayons, and I get to draw something pretty in Photoshop. It also involves a lot of hand holding to those who aren’t as gifted in the ways of the web. Sometimes, just sometimes, I also get to work on pretty cool projects (fully operational battlestations spring to mind). When not doing all that, I sometimes lecture on ‘how to make websites’ and ‘how to do funky things with video’.
By night, I fight crime mostly play husband, one of the side effects of being married. When I get the time, I work on random web projects, or have a bash at online gaming. This obviously doesn’t sound as grand as myself “by day”, but then I don’t think I am hugely interesting. Once in a blue moon, I have a go at playing the piano.
Expanding more on my professional side; I graduated in 2002 with a degree in Internet Engineering BEng. Since then I’ve had a bash at a few things. I could provide a CV, but I am not looking for work at the moment; so if you see my CV here, offer me a job.
- My own freelance web design.
- Systems administrator, poking about with a Windows based network with SBS 4.0 server, and generally supporting users.
- Web administrator, poking about with PHP websites. I got quite good at this point and developed a real-time booking system synching between Apache/PHP/mySQL and MS SQL servers.
- ASP.NET developer, working on getting a 3rd party CAA application talking to an ASP portal.
- ASP developer, designing and developing websites, and supporting a large volume of users.
- A lecturer, teaching students to design websites, add effects to video, and join the two on the web.
Going over and looking at the parts I don’t get paid for. I am fairly interested in computer (internet) controlled devices, I’ve got a few projects on the go which should be mentioned on the site. I also have the odd crack at developing software, and as sad as it sounds, it’s to do with online gaming (but keeps my .NET and SQL knowledge fresh). Online gaming: dabbled with World of Warcraft, but at the moment I prefer to waste my time playing Eve Online.
When I can think of something that makes me sound less like a muppet, I shall put it here.
